Welcome to the official site of International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers (ISDUP, DUP). ISDUP was organized solely for historical, educational, and public purposes and is completely non-political and non-sectarian. We are dedicated to honoring the names and achievements of the men, women, and children who founded Utah. We seek to encompass a broad scope of services, ranging from the preservation of historic landmarks to the education of thousands of school children and adults about their pioneer forebears. DUP Birthday Party Open House: April 11

On April 11th, it is the 123rd Birthday of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers! To celebrate, we will be having an Open House at the Pioneer Memorial Museum from 2 pm to 4 pm. Please come enjoy some refreshments and then stroll around the museum.

ISDUP Seminar/Convention 2024

Mark your calendars for the International Seminar/Convention which will  be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Woods Cross High School in Woods Cross, Utah. Book and gift counter sales run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Company Officer Training will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The Convention, which starts at 10:30, will host the speaker Emily Utt, historic sites curator for the LDS Church History Department. The lesson books for the 2024-2025 DUP year will also be for sale, as well as other items from the Museum gift shop. Hope to see you there!

The Days of ’47 Royalty Scholarship Competition 2024

This year’s theme, “Stout Pioneer Hearts -- Lift Others will be exemplified in the young women who participate in The Days of ’47 Royalty Scholarship Competition for 2024. These contestants, descendants of pioneers who arrived in the valley between 1847 and 1869, are the foundation for the future. They represent the high standards of modern-day pioneers with a love of their pioneer heritage and a vision of the difference young women can make in the world. Scholarships are awarded for Queen $9,000, two attendant $8,000 each. 

The Days of '47 Royalty Scholarship Competition is produced by International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. All the young women who will be competing have graduated from high school and are between the ages of 18 and 25. The chosen royalty will ride in The Days of ’47 Parade, will be in attendance at many functions (such as The Days of ’47 Rodeo), and will speak at numerous gatherings and events during their reign. They will be role models to all young women who hear their message as they represent the State of Utah, The Days of ’47, Inc. and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Date of judging will be March 29 and 30.

Book Sales for 2023-2024: Spiralbound on Sale!

Lesson books for the 2023-2024 year are available for purchase. Spiralbound and hardbound books can be picked up at our gift counter during regular business hours, or ordered by phone or website and shipped with additional shipping costs. The price of the spiralbound is now $10 if you pick it up at the museum or $15 to ship. The price of the hardbound is $25 if you pick it up at the museum or $30 to ship. To save money when ordering multiple books, phone the business office (801-532-6479, ext 200). Shipping and handling ordered this way will be charged with the postage and must be paid with a debit or credit card. Please note: international shipping requires special handling through our main office and tends to be very expensive. DUP Ten-Year Camp Initiative

The Ten-Year Camp Initiative was introduced in 2023 as a planning tool in which Camp Members were encouraged to assess their membership to make a plan for the perpetuation of their Camp. Legacy Articles

We are always gathering articles and pictures for our quarterly newsletter, the Legacy. Please see the following link for deadlines and how to submit your articles and pictures.

These are the types of articles we accept:

1. Camp or company activities, recognitions, visits, events, member milestones and celebrations
2. Museum and marker events, and celebrations
3. Membership recruitment successes 
4. Outreach activities and events by camps, companies, museums, etc. 

We do not accept: Articles about fundraising or donations to other organizations, information about items for sale,  articles thanking outgoing or incoming elected camp or company officers, obituaries, articles or poems about events that do not pertain to DUP.

 

 

2023 Days of '47 Royalty Announced

 

International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers, in partnership with Days of 47, Inc., is pleased to announce the 2023 royalty: Katie Ann Powell, Queen; Holly Biesinger, First Attendant; and Kianna Behunin, Second Attendant. Higher education scholarships of $7,500 for the queen and $6,000 for each attendant will be awarded.
Queen, Katie Ann Powell is a professional harpist, studied at the University of Utah and Redlands school of music. She was an anchor and reporter on BYU Universe Live News. She is currently serving as the executive director of the Granite Credit Union Foundation empowering women by teaching them personal finance. She is the founder and host of the Full Confidence Ahead Podcast. In August she will start her MBA at the University of Utah. She sang for the Real Soccer preshow and can perform rope tricks. Katie Ann is the daughter of Douglas Lester and Stephanie Joy Powell of Sandy, Utah.
First Attendant, Holly Biesinger is a senior attending Southern Utah State University on a full-ride academic scholarship. She has a double major in History and Art Education, Holly is a professional artist trained in many mediums. She is a swimmer, having competitively played water polo for much of her life, in addition to being a coach for many sports. Holly plays the piano, ukulele and sings when she isn’t sculpting, painting, drawing, sewing or creating in various capacities. The examples of her pioneer ancestors give her hope, strength and knowledge that hard things can be overcome. Holly is the daughter of Karl Paul and Deborah Biesinger of West Valley City. Second Attendant, Kianna Behunin is a dental assistant, studying to become a dental hygienist at Salt Lake Community College. Kianna has been dancing since the age of three and has been trained in ballet, hip-hop, jazz, and lyrical. Her rigorous dance training allowed her to dance in the Nutcracker at Ballet West and other leading roles in studio productions. She has been able to teach and work with young dancers and hopes to inspire them to find a passion in doing something they love. She was a member of a track team and continues to participate in races when she has the opportunity to do so. Kianna is the daughter of Ben and Julianna Behunin of Riverton, Utah.
The trio was chosen during a scholarship competition completed March 24 th at the Pioneer Memorial Museum. They were evaluated by a panel of judges based on their responses and video submissions centered on this year’s theme, “Pioneer Stories—Values to Build On!” Their goals, accomplishments, poise, leadership, answers to judges’ questions, and family genealogy with pioneers who came to the Salt Lake Valley between 1847 and May 10, 1869 were other qualifications.
As they travel and speak this summer, the Royalty will be an example to young women who hear their message.They will represent the State of Utah, Days of ’47 and International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. During their reign the Royalty will attend events for Day’s of ’47, Inc., and International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers speaking at youth, church and civic organizations. ISDUP/Days of ’47 Royalty strive to honor the legacy of the Utah Pioneers and Utah’s collective heritage by involving themselves within the community throughout the year. The Royalty speak about the early settlers of Utah. They strive to instill awareness, a greater understanding and appreciation of the faith, fortitude and courage of the trailblazers of our state. The young women represent what todays’ pioneers can accomplish.
