Question – What are the duties of a camp captain?

Answer – The captain shall preside at and conduct all camp meetings where she shall present for consideration the business of the camp and further the interests and policies of the association. She may call special meetings when necessary. After consultation with her Executive Committee, she may fill any vacancy that occurs in office with the exception of the captain and appoint all camp committees. She is an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee. At the conclusion of her term of office, she shall review before the camp the work accomplished during the preceding two years. She shall, with the consent of her Executive Committee, authorize disbursement of all monies. She shall sign all correspondence pertaining to camp business. She and two others shall audit the treasurer’s financial records annually.

Answer –  An "Inactive Member" is an ISDUP member who HAS NOT PAID the current DUP year dues.  Even though she hasn not paid her  due she is still a registered member of  ISDUP and as such must kept on the camp rolls.

Question – Define "Regional Representative"

Answer –  Regional Representatives are appointed in areas where the organization has several counties and are far enough removed from the headquarters that representation of national officers at jubilees, seminars, installations, or other special programs is difficult due to timing and expense of travel. The regional representatives are the liaisons between the national officers and the county boards.

Question – What's the history of the "Pioneer Song Book"?

Answer – 

The first book to be published by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers was a book of folk songs. These songs came from all over the world and were passed on by word of mouth and sung in times of pleasure and stress, around the home fires, and on the open Plains. They were a reflection of the lives of the people and their dreams of better things and happier days.

• September 24, 1914. Professor Evan Stephens prepared a special group of pioneer songs for a publication entitled Pioneer Jubilee Songster

• June 1927. A committee was appointed to select the songs and begin working toward the publication of a pioneer songbook for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

• September 14, 1931. George D. Pyper granted the use of some of the songs from the Deseret Sunday School Union Book to be used in the new songbook.

• February 27, 1932. The Pioneer Song Book, published under the direction of President Kate C. Snow's board, was delivered on this date. President Snow then called for volunteers to meet at the Capitol Building on Monday, February 29, to mail the books to counties and individuals who had already sent in their money.

• October 8, 1932. The recently published Pioneer Song Book was promoted at the fall convention held on this date. County presidents were also asked to accept and introduce the Utah State flag in their areas.

• April 5, 1941. A second edition of the Pioneer Song Book was received from the publisher on this date.

Question – What is a Camp and what is its function?

Answer – 

The Camp. Every Daughter holds her membership in the camp, organized in her locality under a company. Meetings are held once a month, on a date decided either by the company officers or by the local camp leaders. Camp officers are elected every two years to lead the camp members.

Camp Meetings. Every camp meeting follows a definite pattern, inasmuch as the time is devoted to a study of the founders, events, and history of the State of Deseret and Utah Territory. A topic in the form of a lesson wriiten by the International Lesson  Committee is presented and discussed, under the guidance of the camp lesson leader. This is called the lesson period. Songs that the pioneers knew and music that they loved bring back memories of the past. The biography/history of a Utah pioneer read by one of the Daughters, tells of the struggles, risks and dangers, mingled with the faith, joys, and successes of her pioneer ancestor. This history is important and a copy should be filed at the Pioneer Memorial Museum (Salt Lake City).

Question – Define "Jubilee"

Answer – 

At a meeting of the State Central Company of the Daughters of Pioneers [n.d.](1), it was decided that the annual outing or celebrations of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, either camp or county, or state central, should be known as "Jubilees" in memory of the name applied to many of the celebrations held by the pioneers. It is well to recall that even though they withstood many hardships, our pioneers had time to play and to get together in the spirit of commemoration and celebrate events of historic value.

The annual outing shall be known as “Daughters of Utah Pioneers Jubilee”. (The ByLaws of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, 2003 - Article VI Section 1. Title of Annual Outing.)

Currently camps and companies celebrate "Jubilee" by an outing or luncheon.
